What we focus on in Rhetoric School
Rhetoric SchoolSchool of Rhetoric (9th through 12th Grades) Rhetoric is the art of communication -- the stage at which one can analyze and articulate truth. George Campbell defined Rhetoric as “... that art or talent by which discourse is adapted to its end. The four ends of discourse are to enlighten the understanding, please the imagination, move the passion, and influence the will.”
The appropriately named Rhetoric School at CCA encompasses students in grades 10-12. Building upon the twin pillars of abiding knowledge and critical thinking skills, Rhetoric students learn to express themselves effectively in both writing and speaking. Properly taught, Rhetoric is an aegis to counter the world, the flesh, and the devil’s relentless assault on truth, goodness, and beauty. The ideal CCA graduate is a faithful, noble, and compassionate servant who strives to impact the world for God’s kingdom. Having studied the seven liberal arts and the great books, CCA graduates are trained to cultivate wisdom and virtue through nourishing their souls on all that is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise (Phillipians 4:8).
Our Graduates are faithful, showing consistent dependence on God through prayer, meditation on Scripture, and a commitment to the body of Christ; noble, seeking to present themselves with dignity, etiquette, and humility; compassionate, desiring to be considerate of all who bear God’s image by celebrating diverse personalities (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) and sympathizing with those around them (Romans 12:15); and servants, recognizing needs and taking action to meet them -- even at personal cost.
